TranSMART (tM) open-source platform is a cloud system to support translational research by offering an online solution to integrate, manage, cross-analyze and share clinical, biological and OMICs data. The main strength of tM is its ability to handle most kind of OMICs, biological and clinical data, to describe their properties and to understand the relationships between the data. Compare data from proteomics, metabolomics and other “omics” studies.

Flow Cytometry and tM

Currently, the only major data domain that tM is not configured to handle is Flow Cytometry. During the tM annual meeting 2015 adding FC data management to tM was the #1 point on the user wish-list. The absence of FC data management is significantly increasing the effort and complexity that are required for the inclusion of FC biomarkers in the tenths of thousands of translational research projects conducted with tM. As a result, the significance of FC data is devalued by either being excluded from the analysis or by having to be treated differently than the rest of the data which are already integrated and automatically handled by tM. Given that tM is an open-source project driven by the community, ESSCA could assist the effort of introducing FC data into tM by taking the role of the scientific advisor who will define which FC data, meta data and analyses results should be included in tM and how those data are related with the rest of the information that can be available in a tM project.
