Dear ESCCA Members
First I would like to thank you for your active participation to the elections. I am proud of having been elected as the new ESCCA president. Thanks to all of you and congratulations to Maria Arroz who also had a good voting support. The new ESCCA Board met in Lisbon in December 2012.
The new Board is engaged in enhancing ESCCA activities to support Cytometry in Europe. This can be accomplished by keeping our annual Euroconferences at a very high standard and by disseminating education with Eurocourses and Summer Schools.
ESCCA Summer Schools represent our new policy towards the development of residential, full-immersion courses which will pave the way to the specific certification of technical and academical operators, widely felt as a fundamental step for laboratory accreditation. Part of the courses will be organized nationally, in local languages and in full collaboration with the local cytometric society. An International course will be also organized in English, for the benefit of the operators from smaller Countries that cannot enjoy the support of a local society.
Focused Courses will be also organized on specific topics, in cooperation with other scientific Societies (e.g. IFCC) or with industrial partners. The organization of courses outside Europe represents a further challenge for the future of ESCCA, and a common strategy is under development with our international partners ICCS and ISAC.
But first of all, ESCCA must grow stronger and gather more active members, in close collaboration with national cytometry societies.
The annual congress will be open to members and part of the plenary session will be dedicated to give ESCCA members the opportunity for oral communications selected from submitted abstracts. Finally, we intend to support strongly young cytometrists and we will organize specific seminars during the euroconferences. In Luxemburg we will ask seniors to give tips and advices for building up good projects and succeeding in publishing the results.
The Board has built up a young and active society during the last few years, but ESCCA is above all YOUR association and any proposal for common initiatives of general interest is more than welcome. You can freely join a thematic committee, send proposals to the secretary and first of all, disseminate the knowledge of ESCCA in your own environment and encourage new membership.
The new ESCCA Board includes Bruno Brando as Secretary, Stefano Papa as Treasurer and myself as the President. The other Board members are Maria Arroz, Jan Willem Gratama, Enrique o’Connor, Claudio Ortolani, Katerina Psarra, and Andy Rawstron.
I wish you a happy and successful year and hope for your active collaboration in making our society dynamic and helpful.
Claude Lambert
ESCCA President
